  PROGRESSIONS
What is the basis of nature’s design? What can you reduce everything down to
in a visual sense? How can simple shapes evoke a story and an emotion? Microscopic cells to celestial bodies—they are all made up of circles. The circle is a foundation shape, it is a component and building block of all things living and man made. The circle and other basic geometric shapes have served as versatile symbolic icons with multiple meanings throughout history; from cave paintings, to hieroglyphics, to cubism and minimalism to site a few examples, and will no doubt, continue to be utilized in the future. These are very powerful shapes.

Using the circle at the beginning of my explorations I wanted to look at it in new ways. Cutting it, rotating its elements to create new patterns and progressions; to see a shape that is so familiar and basic in a new way. Circles led to squares, squares to triangles. Progressions of elements began to have multiple meanings to me, about time, the universe, the life cycle, nature, birth, death and decay.

I work in oil paint, oil stick and graphite on board, oil stick and graphite on paper, house paint, cut and manipulated paper and digital animation.

LANDSCAPES
Creation of a sense of place, a window to look through; I seek to transport myself and the viewer to experience another place, to see and feel the beauty of Nature. I work in oil paint on board or canvas, and oil stick on paper, sometimes combining the two.
